This week in GTM: Europe raised more money for one AI model than most SaaS companies have raised in their entire existence, Scottie Scheffler passed Tiger on the money list without breaking eye contact, and a 2-handicap in Missouri drove his car to the 4th green at 5am to plant a golf ball in the cup. Grab a coffee.
🏌️ THE DRIVE: Europe Just Raised €3B for a Model. Your Series B Is Fine, Probably.
Mistral closed a €3B Series D at a €21B valuation on Monday, led by Samsung Electronics with EQT's Scaleup Europe Fund co-leading — the largest equity round ever completed by a European tech company. NVIDIA, ASML, BlackRock, Salesforce Ventures and the Grand Duchy of Luxembourg (yes, the country) all showed up. The pitch: "sovereign AI" that runs inside customer infrastructure so your data and your knowledge don't leave the building. If you're selling into European enterprise right now and your deck still says "US-hosted only," that's a fairway bunker of your own making. The buyers didn't move the pin — Samsung and ASML just told you where it is.
⛳ THE FAIRWAY: Scottie Scheffler Passed Tiger. He Didn't Even Look Up.
Scheffler entered East Lake three shots back on Sunday, shot 66, and walked out with his second FedExCup, his 22nd PGA Tour win, and every dollar Tiger Woods has ever earned on the PGA Tour — plus a few extra. Three shots back with 18 to play against Viktor Hovland. He caught him with a 25-footer on the 4th and never trailed again. This is what "closed-won" looks like when your process is boring and your numbers aren't. Your best AE does not do a jig on the 18th tee — she takes the four-foot par putt, shakes hands, and asks for the next deal. If your team is celebrating pipeline while missing quota, you have a Hovland problem, not a Scheffler one.
This Week's Hole-in-One Award: whoever coaches Scheffler on doing exactly one thing at a time. Bill him at whatever a RevOps consultant charges.
🏴 THE GREEN: The Ryder Cup at Bethpage Is 17 Days Out. Your Q4 Plan Isn't.
The 45th Ryder Cup tees off September 25-27 at Bethpage Black — Keegan Bradley captaining a Team USA that returns to home soil after Europe's 15-13 heist in Rome, and a defending European side under Luke Donald that swapped one Højgaard twin for the other and otherwise ran it back. New York in September, 40,000 fans a day, no cut, no stroke play, just 28 match-play points and a lot of shouting. Two things Ryder Cup captains and CROs actually share: (1) you cannot win it alone, (2) pairings matter more than the roster. Look at your Q4 named-account plan today. If your best closer and your best SE are on different deals, you're doing the sales equivalent of benching Scheffler and Cantlay so they can each play alternate-shot with rookies.
🎙️ FROM THE CLUBHOUSE: Seismic + Highspot Closed. Enablement Just Became One Bag.
Seismic officially closed its merger with Highspot on August 18 — 2,500 customers, 3.5 million sellers, marketers, and enablement folks now under one roof, running under the Seismic name with Rob Tarkoff as CEO and Permira in the control seat. The category rebrand: "Go-To-Market Performance." (Translation: enablement, coaching, content, and AI agents in one place instead of four annual renewals.) Two things worth watching. First, the tools-per-seller number in your stack just became a KPI whether you like it or not. Second, if you're a point solution in this category, the pitch is no longer "we do this one thing well" — it's "we do this one thing so well you don't need the platform." Bring receipts to your next renewal call, or don't bother scheduling it. Got a story tip? Drop it at gtmgolfclub.com — we'll take it from the rough and put it on the green.
🚂 THE CADDIE'S CORNER: Skip the Cup, Chug the Beer
This week's palate cleanser: a range-rat somewhere out there figured out that a golf ball, thrown just right, will skip off the water, hop over the plastic cup on the tee, and put an entire beer on the deck without spilling a drop. The clip has 416K views since September 3 and every reply is some variation of "sir this is a wendy's." Pure, no-notes, non-strategic golf content. We needed it.
🍺 19TH HOLE INSIGHT
Mistral raised €3B to build a model that will not lie to you. A guy in Missouri drove his Kia to the 4th green at sunrise to plant a Titleist in the cup and won the members' hole-in-one pot for about four hours. Both things happened this week. The market is quietly deciding which one it wants to reward long-term, and it's not the guy with the Kia. Build the honest thing. Bill for the work done. And for the love of Amen Corner, don't leave your car on the CCTV.
