This week in GTM: the internet's favorite whiteboard sold for parts, a GTM data layer quietly doubled to $7.1B, and the Solheim Cup is tied in the Netherlands. Grab your flat stick, we're going in.
🏌️ THE DRIVE: The $17.5B Whiteboard Just Went for Parts
Bending Spoons — the Italian rollup that already owns Evernote, Meetup, Vimeo and Airtable — agreed Thursday to buy Miro for $1.355 billion in cash. Enterprise value. Back in 2022, Miro raised $400M at a $17.5B valuation — that's roughly 92% off, no promo code required. And the detail that says everything: certain Miro shareholders are plowing $295M of their proceeds right back into Bending Spoons stock. The sellers paying to stay in the store.
Thirty million users and "profitable" weren't a moat. This Week's Pro Shop Markdown Award goes to the sticker price on your brainstorm's digital home. PLG's greatest asset just became its greatest cautionary tale.
⛳ THE FAIRWAY: The Solheim Cup Is Tied, and History's Already Made
Day one at Bernardus Golf in the Netherlands: USA and Europe split the morning foursomes 2-2, but the morning belonged to Nelly Korda and Allisen Corpuz, who dusted Charley Hull and Lottie Woad 4-and-3 to become the first pairing in Solheim Cup history to win their first five matches together. Foursomes is alternate shot — the world's best test of handoffs. One bad pass and your partner inherits the bunker, no range bucket required.
Build your pods like captains build pairings: your best AE plus a great SE, five straight wins, and never split them up because a VP "wants coverage." USA needs 14 to retain; Europe needs 14½ to take it home. If you're dodging meetings for the afternoon fourballs, we won't tell.
🏴 THE GREEN: Clay Doubled to $7.1B. The GTM Engineer Wins Again.
Wednesday, Clay — the data layer under half the SDR stacks you know — raised $115M at a $7.1B valuation, led by Wellington with a16z, Sequoia, CapitalG and Meritech along for the ride. That's more than double the $3.1B price tag from last summer, after 4x revenue growth and a customer list that includes 80% of the Forbes AI50.
This Week's Hole-in-One Award goes to a company whose product is, essentially, verified data and less spray-and-pray. The contrast with the Drive section writes itself: the market stopped paying for where people brainstorm and started paying for where pipeline lives.
🎙️ FROM THE CLUBHOUSE: Snedeker Goes Youth, Ogilvy Goes Underdog
The Presidents Cup teams are set for Medinah (Sept 24-27). Brandt Snedeker's U.S. picks: Gotterup, Schauffele, Thomas, Cantlay, Bridgeman — and 21-year-old Jackson Koivun, three months out of Auburn, who already took down Scheffler's world at the 3M Open. Snedeker's quote is a manager review worth stealing: "It's rare to see a player this young demonstrate the level of poise and confidence that Jackson has." Meanwhile Geoff Ogilvy's Internationals counter with Conners, Im, Taylor, Hisatsune, Echavarria and Bezuidenhout — and Medinah will open with four-ball, meaning no slow-play warm-up acts.
That's your Q4 named-account team right there: six automatics carry the number, six picks fill the gaps, and one unproven 21-year-old with moxie changes the energy of the whole room.
🚂 THE CADDIE'S CORNER: Fred, No Look, No Notes
At the Sanford International closest-to-the-pin contest under the lights, Boom Boom pulled a hybrid — a HYBRID — aimed 15-20 yards right of the pin, took a buttery half swing, holstered the club, turned to the crowd and said "that's going to be really good." It went in. He never watched. The clip is here. The best closers call the shot before it lands, then let the ball do the follow-up.
🍺 19TH HOLE INSIGHT
One week, two scoreboards: a whiteboard with 30 million users sold at 92% off, and a pipeline-data company doubled to $7.1B. Users are scorecard ink; retention is the clubhouse trophy. Fred knew all along — call the shot, walk away, and let the ball do the follow-up.
